A very good knowledge of French for texts to be red in the original Language. Passes in the exams of French Language LM I and French Literature LM I.
MOD. LM I A:
At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the ability to analyze 16th and 20th century French essays (Montaigne's "Les Essais", Cioran's "De l'inconvénient d'etre né") and 16th century poetry (Ronsard's "Les Amours") from a linguistic and historical-cultural point of view, he will have developed adequate critical and comparative capacities of understanding literary events and he will be able to identify their real stylistic, poetical and epistemological value in the history of literature and criticism.
MOD. LM I B:
At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the ability to analyze 17th century French theatre (Racine's "Phèdre"), novel (Madame de LaFayette's "La Princesse de Clèves") and fragments (Pascal's "Les Pensées") from a linguistic and historical-cultural point of view, he will have developed adequate critical and comparative capacities of understanding literary events and he will be able to identify their real stylistic, poetical and epistemological value in the history of literature and criticism.
MOD. LM I A:
"Philosophical fragment and poetry from 16th to 20th century: Montaigne, Ronsard, Cioran".
Through the study of the philosophical Montaigne's and Cioran's essays "Les Essais" (1588-1595), "De l'inconvénient d'etre né" (1973), and of Ronsard poetry collection "Les Amours" (1552), the student will address the originality and the modernity of Montaigne's thought (culture, religion, tolerance and cultural relativism), the Pléiade's poetics and the poetical energy of Cioran's cynical aphorisms, specially concerning the style of short forms.
MOD. LM I B:
"Theatre, novel and aphorism in 16th century French Literature: Racine, Pascal, Madame de LaFayette".
Through the study of the famous dramatic Racine's masterpiece "Phèdre" (1677), of Pascal's "Les Pensées" (1670) and of Madame de LaFayette's novel "La Princesse de Clèves"(1678),the student will discover the style of "classical" French theatre, the theological and dialectic Pascal's thought and the first novel of analysis of the French Literature, specially concerning the tragical theology of jansenism.
Lectures in French, with some parts of the program's texts orally analyzed and translated by the students with the teacher during the course.
The examination is oral. Reading, translation (a required ability to continue the examination) and comment on literary extracts from course texts, in order to test the linguistic, literary and specially critical competences of the students. The examination consists in three or four open questions for every module concerning literary and critical texts in the syllabus, in order to test the acquisition of the program's goals, and the quality of expression.

ERASMUS students will not be asked to translate French authors texts during the oral exam, but they have to prepare the complete bibliography of the course in all its French and Italian parts.
If the course were done in mixt or e-learning modality, some changes could be introducted in order to make the course and the exams availables in these others ways.
