The golden age of German poetry in the 18th century.
The teaching module A, taught in German, initially deals with a historical overview of the periodisation of German poetry from 1770 - the era, in which the Sturm und Drang begins - until the end of the 19th century; in a second phase, it invites to analyze, thanks to a choice that will be made of paradigmatic examples of lyric poetry, the formal taste, the style and the proposal of the themes in the poems.
In this module we will focus in particular on the poetry of Goethe, Schiller and Hölderlin.
The combined use of an introductory handbook, which will accompany the acquisition of data and information on the history of German lyric poetry between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and a commented anthology specifically concerning the lyric poetry of Classicism, will offer material to understand the stylistic characteristics of the poems.
Frontal lessons are foreseen, with the involvement of the students during the course, inviting them to ask questions.
Participants will be able to work on the translation of some passages of poetic compositions under the guidance of the professor.
"If the teaching is taught in mixed mode or remotely, they can be introduced changes compared to what is stated in the syllabus to make the course and exams usable also in this way. "
Any further changes will be provided before the start of the course in October on the teacher's personal page under "personal information", available on Google in Elena Agazzi persone e insegnamenti
The exam will be taken by students in oral form. There are three questions in German-language for each module concerning:
1) the identification of some distinctive characters of a poetic current or of an author's poetry in relation to a specific historical period
2) the analysis of a poem on the basis of form, style and content
3) translation examples conducted on poems analyzed during the course
