Competence in Spanish at min. C1 level.
After completing the module, students will have improved their translation skills: they will have acquired theoretical, methodological and practical tools to translate poetry of different ages and literary movements, from Spanish into Italian.
After a general introduction to the main concepts of literary translation in the Spanish context, the module will focus on the analysis of existing poetic translations and on the practice of translation. Special attention will be given to contemporary texts.
Contents will also be discussed in a teaching perspective, so as to provide opportunities for further analyses.
Teaching will take place through lectures, in Spanish, sometimes with ppt or pdf files, but active participation of students is required, especially in the practical part of the module.
During the course, professors from other Spanish or Italian universities can be invited to give one or two specialized lectures. Students will also be encouraged to attend the language practice sessions planned within the weekly schedule for their level of competence.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The assessment includes a test on language skills, an oral exam on the A module and, for the 10-ECTS exam, a written exam on the syllabus of the B module.
The overall grade is the result of the test on language skills and of the examination on the syllabus of the module (5 ECTS) or of the two modules (10 ECTS). All parts must be passed successfully.
Prior to the module exam, students will have to pass a test on language; the details are published on the specific web page of “Centro Competenza Lingue”, in the Spanish language section (see: Home > Centri di ricerca e servizio > CCL > Lingue straniere: Spagnolo). The grade obtained in the test on language skills is valid for 18 months, after which the language test must be repeated, before taking the module exam. It is not possible to refuse the mark obtained in the test on language skills, as it is a partial grade. The language test cannot be taken before the relevant module is concluded.
MODULE PROF. M. BIANCHI:
The assessment consists of an oral exam comprising normally three open-ended questions; in addition, at least 15 days before the exam session students are expected to prepare a written translation of a text previously identified with the lecturer, and to provide the relevant traductological analysis.
The exam will be in Spanish (except for the translation), and it will test the contents of the entire program of the module.
The score (./30) will depend equally on both the written translation and on the oral presentation; more specifically, it will evaluate the following aspects:
- the knowledge of traductological theories;
- the appropriateness of their application to the practical activity of translation;
- translation and communication skills in Spanish and Italian.
TAKE NOTE: For the 10-ECTS exam, students are required to take both modules A and B in the same exam session. It is not possible to refuse the score of a single module.
If the course is given in mixed or distance mode, it is possible that changes will be introduced to what is indicated in this syllabus.
LABORATORY AND OTHER ACTIVITIES ON LITERARY TRANSLATION: This course is related both to the laboratory offered by the Master in ISLLI and to other activities on literary translation whose details will be communicated throughout the year.
The DELE Diploma de Español nivel C2 international certificate will exempt students from the language assessment tests, except for the translation test (see Home > Centri di ricerca e servizio > CCL > Lingue straniere: Spagnolo>Riconoscimenti di certificazione).
