Educational goals

At the end of the course, the students will have improved their competences at an advanced C1 level for French language LM I, (European Framework of Reference). The students will have acquired critical skills about the metaphorical revival.

Course content

Metaphor.
The course aims to explore the theoretical debate, particularly heated in France since Paul Ricoeur, linked to the metaphorical revival. The metaphor is no longer understood exclusively as a figure of speech, but as a complex linguistic phenomenon that urges us to reflect on the intrinsically figural nature of language.
During the course, examples taken from the press and in general from the media will be analyzed.

Teaching methods

Lectures. Particular attention is paid to the discussion and direct dialogue with the students. During the year, students may be required individual or group works that contribute to the final evaluation. Students can also access the training activities organized for their level of competency, as well as tutoring activities planned during the year (see Language Competence Centre site).

Assessment and Evaluation

The exam on the module consists of an oral test in French language. Students are required to answer questions concerning the module subject extensively covered on the books’ list provided. Group or individual works, required during the year, will be taken into account as part of the final evaluation. In order to take the oral test, students LM I must have passed written tests concerning linguistic skills. The written tests are organized as follows:-
LM I (57208-EN1 + 57208-EN2), 10 cfu (mod. A + B): thème littéraire + version littéraire.
