Al termine del corso lo studente sviluppa una conoscenza approfondita dei fondamenti teorici e
metodologici che ispirano lo studio scientifico del linguaggio e delle lingue. Tale conoscenza
rappresenta la base per sviluppare le competenze linguistiche necessarie all’analisi, alla comprensione
e alla produzione di testi di natura diversa.
Sì Il corso si propone di fornire alcune nozioni di base di linguistica che permettano di cogliere il funzionamento del linguaggio umano nel contesto storico e sociale. Tra i principali argomenti affrontati nell’ambito di questo modulo: nozioni elementari di linguistica (inclusi terminologia e metodi d'analisi): fonetica, morfologia, sintassi, semantica, cenni di tipologia morfologica e sintattica, classificazione genealogica delle lingue del mondo; il mutamento linguistico; italiano e dialetti; varietà dell’italiano contemporaneo.
Nel secondo modulo si approfondiranno le dinamiche di contatto linguistico osservabili nello spazio linguistico italiano, con particolare riguardo all’interrelazione tra lingua nazionale, dialetti italo-romanzi, lingue di minoranza e lingue immigrate. Si affronteranno questioni relative sia alla rispettiva collocazione all'interno del repertorio individuale e comunitario, sia inerenti agli interventi di politica e pianificazione linguistica, sia di natura psicolinguistica, ovvero, relative agli atteggiamenti linguistici degli appartenenti alla comunità.
La didattica si svolgerà tramite lezioni frontali, ma con un'attenzione particolare al confronto e al
dialogo diretto con gli studenti, che saranno stimolati a riconosce le possibilità di applicare le nozioni presentate durante le lezioni all’analisi della realtà che li circonda. Sono previste delle esercitazioni sulle nozioni di natura pratico-applicativa, volte a preparare gli studenti (frequentanti e non) al sostenimento della prova d’esame. Sulla area e-learning del corso, inoltre, è messo a disposizione degli studenti un file di esercizi corredati di soluzioni attraverso i quali gli studenti non frequentanti avranno la possibilità di prepararsi in modo autonomo e di testare la propria preparazione.
La verifica dell’apprendimento avviene attraverso una prova scritta oppure una prova orale. Dal punto di vista dei contenuti, tra le due modalità di verifica non vi è alcuna differenza. Per gli studenti dell’anno in corso, tre degli otto appelli d’esame previsti nell’arco dell’anno accademico (ovvero, gli appelli di maggio, giugno e settembre) saranno in forma scritta, mentre gli altri cinque saranno in forma orale. Lo studente potrà scegliere la modalità di esame che preferisce. Sia la prova scritta, sia la prova orale esauriscono l’esame e portano al conseguimento di 12 cfu. Il voto ottenuto può essere accettato o rifiutato a discrezione dello studente, ma si tratta di un voto definitivo, che non presuppone il superamento di altre prove. Nel corso della prova d’esame (sia essa scritta oppure orale) allo studente verrà chiesto di risolvere esercizi simili a quelli affrontati durante le esercitazioni (trascrizione fonetica, scomposizione in morfemi, brevi domande di carattere teorico).
La prova scritta avrà una durata di 90 minuti e si comporrà di 15 domande; a ciascuna risposta fornita dallo studente verranno assegnati da 0 a 2 punti.
1) Gli STUDENTI NON FREQUENTANTI devono aggiungere allo studio del testi di riferimento sopra indicati lo studio dei cap. da 4 a 8 (pp. 41-154) del seguente testo: Magni Elisabetta, 2014, Linguistica Storica, Bologna, Pàtron editore.
2) AGLI STUDENTI che incontrassero difficoltà nella comprensione dei rudimenti di fonetica e fonologia o nello svolgimento degli ESERCIZI DI FONETICA si suggerisce la lettura aggiuntiva (NON OBBLIGATORIA) del testo seguente: MATURI PIETRO, 2006, I suoni delle lingue, i suoni dell’italiano, Bologna, Il Mulino.
3) TUTTI GLI STUDENTI sono tenuti a consultare periodicamente la bacheca elettronica del corso, e a scaricare e svolgere gli ESERCIZI (e le SOLUZIONI degli stessi) riguardanti le nozioni di base di Linguistica. A TUTTI GLI STUDENTI è inoltre raccomandato di accedere al sito www.pandoracampus.it > PER CHI STUDIA e di scaricare e svolgere gli Esercizi con Soluzioni lì presenti, seguendo le istruzioni indicate all’interno della copertina del testo di Riferimento Berruto / Cerruti (2017).
4) Qualora l'insegnamento venisse impartito in modalità mista o a distanza, potranno essere introdotte modifiche rispetto alle presenti indicazioni per adeguare il corso, le esercitazioni e gli esami anche a queste modalità. Le informazioni relative saranno fornite sull’area e-learning del corso.

The students will be able to attain a comprehensive knowledge of the theoretical and
methodological basic principles underlying the scientific study of the world’s languages. Such
knowledge represents the first step towards the development of the linguistic competences
required in order to analyze, interpret and produce different types of written and oral texts.
The course aims at providing basic knowledge and understanding of the interface between human languages and the historical and social context surrounding them. The main topics which will be discussed during the course include: Linguistics’ basic principles and notions (phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, genealogical and typological classification of the world’s languages, .), language variation and change, the various modern Italian language varieties, Italo-Romance dialects and minority languages in Italy.
In the second semester students will be introduced to the major synchronic and diachronic aspects concerning the dynamics of language contact in the linguistic space of Italy, by focusing on the interrelation among the national language, the various Italo-Romance dialects spoken on the Italian territory, minority languages and immigrant languages. The topic will be addressed from different perspectives, including the analysis of the functional allocation of the various linguistic systems within both the individual and the community language repertoire, the main outcomes in terms of language policy and language planning initiatives, as well as the role played by speakers’ attitudes and perceptions.
The course is taught with frontal lessons, but students will be invited to use their questions to guide the teaching process and to appreciate the possibility to apply the theoretical notions to the analysis of the reality surrounding them. Students are warmly recommended to download from the e-learning area of the course a PDF file containing a few exercises focusing on applied principles. The exercises will be discussed during the lessons, and exercise keys will be available (on the same electronic notice board of the course) for non-attending students as well.
The assessment takes place either in written or in spoken form. As far as the contents are concerned, the above-mentioned assessment forms are totally equivalent. In three out of eight exam sessions the assessment will be in written form (usually in the May, June and September exam sessions), whereas in the remaining five sessions the exam will be in oral form. Students are invited to choose the assessment form that best suits them and their needs. The final mark, leading to the acquisition of 12 university credits, can be either accepted or rejected by the single student, but does not entail any other assessment test. Both the written and oral exam involve theoretical questions and exercises similar to those discussed during the training practice hours mentioned in the previous paragraph.
The written test, lasting 90 minutes, will be composed by 15 questions; each answer will be assigned from 0 to 2 points.

2) ALL THE STUDENTS having difficulties in fully grasping phonetic / phonology concepts are advised to consult the following (optional) volume: MATURI PIETRO, 2006, I suoni delle lingue, i suoni dell’italiano, Bologna, Il Mulino.
3) ALL THE STUDENTS are expected to regularly visit the electronic notice board of the course in order to download and resolve the EXERCISES (whose SOLUTIONS are available on the same electronic notice board) focusing on the basic principles of Linguistics. ALL THE STUDENTS are warmly recommended to visit the webpage www.pandoracampus.it and access the Per chi studia [Students] area, where a number of additional exercises (with solutions) and materials can be downloaded free of charge.
4) If the course will be taught in a blended or in a distance learning form, these guidelines may undergo a few changes in order to adapt the course, the exercises and the assessment to these forms.
