Il corso offre a studentesse e studenti le competenze storico-letterarie e critico-analitiche per affrontare una riflessione sul ruolo del mito nella storia letteraria del romanticismo europeo e, soprattutto, tedesco. A studentesse e studenti verranno trasmesse le conoscenze necessarie per un discorso storico- letterario e critico sulla nuova interpretazione del mito nella cornice della letteratura moderna. .
"Metamorfosi della Ninfa"
Ancor prima che Aby Warburg si soffermasse su questa figura dell'immaginario occidentale, la letteratura tedesca, a partire dall'Ottocento, attingeva al mito classico di Odisseo e le sirene rielaborando la figura della ninfa in una serie di metamorfosi acquatiche, che faranno di Ondina una delle protagoniste della letteratura attraverso l'Ottocento romantico fino alla seconda metà del Novecento e oltre.
Il corso analizzerà le riscritture del mito a partire dalla "Nuova Melusina" di Goethe, attraverso le sperimentazioni del fin de siècle (S. Freud, Th. Fontane), fino all'opera di una delle maggiori scrittrici di lingua tedesca del Novecento, Ingeborg Bachmann. In particolare, dopo un'introduzione sulla riscoperta del mito negli studi del Settecento, nell'arte e nella letteratura neoclassiche, si analizzerà il processo di libera trasformazione che, nella figura di Ondina, intesse attraverso l'Ottocento, una indagine sul femminile e sui segreti dell'Io.

Lezioni frontali.
Il corso offrirà innanzi tutto una base storico-critica sul funzionamento del mito, e in particolare sulle ragioni storico-culturali che presiedono al ritorno del mito nella cultura dell' Ottocento. Successivamente, le lezioni daranno a studentesse e studenti gli strumenti critici per lavorare sulle riscritture del mito nella letteratura europea fra Otto e Novecento, e oltre.
Esame orale, valutazione in trentesimi.
Durante l'esame si verificheranno le competenze nell'analisi e nella contestualizzazione di opere letterarie di area tedesca nonché la conoscenza di strumenti d'indagine comparatistica e di didattica della letteratura,
Gli studenti non frequentanti possono rivolgersi alla docente per concordare una bibliografia adeguata al proprio curriculum di studi.
Qualora l'insegnamento venisse offerto in modalità di didattica a distanza o mista, si adegueranno format delle lezioni e degli esami affinché siano accessibili a studentesse e studenti.

The course offers the students the critical and literary knowledge which is necessary for a reflection on the role of Myth in the literary theory of European Romanticism, and particularly German Romanticism, so that the students will be able to develop a critical and historical discourse on the new interpretation of Myth within modern literature. l.
"Metamorphosis of the Nymph"
Before Aby Warburg devoted his attention to this figure of Western imagery, German litearture redescoverd the myth of Odysseus and the Sirens by transforming the charming figures inhabiting the see in one of the protagonists of German literature from the late XVIII century till contemporay literature
The course will offer an analysis of the interpretations of this myth from "The new Melusine" by Goethe through the fin de siècle (S. Freud, Th. Fontane) tio the famous short story by one ot the most significant writers in XXth century, Ingeborg Bachmann.
After an introduction devoted to the rediscovery of myth in the XVIII century, in neoclassical art and literature, the course will offer an analysis of the process of free transformation of the nymph, thanks to which a new insight in the secrets of female subjectivity was made possible. Frontal lessons.
First of all, the course will give the students the basic historical and critical knowledge about the nature of myth, with particular attention to the historical and cultural background which prepared the revival of myth in the XIXth century.
Secondly, the lessons will offer the students the critical tools for working on the trasnformation of myth in European literature between XIXth and XX/XXI century.
Oral exam, evaluation in grades.
During the exam the student should prove his ability in the contextualisation of works of German literature, his/her knowledge of the basic tools for a comparative analysis of literature and for the didactics of literature.
Students who cannot attend the course could ask prof. Valtolina for a specific bibliography, which could be siutable for their curriculum studiorum.
If the course should be offered by means of distant or mixed learning, the format of lessons and exams will be adapted to enable students to participate.
