Educational goals

At the end of the course, students will acquire theoretical and applicative knowledge and skills related to the field of "advanced manufacturing" and "smart manufacturing. In particular, the students will acquire a good knowledge of advanced manufacturing systems and of the main techniques/technologies for their use and control, both from a physical, remote and virtual point of view.

Course content

Process and product.
Introduction to traditional and advanced manufacturing systems.
General framework on advanced manufacturing systems.
Additive Manufacturing.
Product and process measurement / control techniques and systems.
Simulation and virtualization. FEM simulations of product and process. Discrete event simulation of manufacturing processes. Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Digital Shadow and Digital Twin.

Advanced techniques and systems for the control and automatic correction of processes: Smart manufacturing and artificial intelligence.

Laboratory activities, relevant case studies from a "smart manufacturing" perspective and seminars.

Assessment and Evaluation

The final evaluation will be carried out through a written test and the discussion of a group project work (concerning the themes of "smart manufacturing").
The two parts have approximately equal value.
