A good knowledge of the basic notions of general and diachronic linguistics are required.
The aims of the course is the following: to make the students develop a critical apprach to sociolinguistics when applied to historical linguistics.
The course will offer an updated survey on the most recent data acquired in the investigation by means of the methods of historical sociolinguistics. Special attention will be devoted to the so called Uniformitarianism.
If lectures should combine face-to-face teaching and distance teaching, some changes could be necessary with respect to the syllabus as to make course and exams also available in the distance modality.
Students will be evaluated through an oral exams. Students will have the opportunity to show their skills and the competence acquired beyond any doubts. The criterio according to which students will be evaluated will be base on their ability to show what they have acquired from data and methods transmitted during the lectures.
