Cultura generale, soprattutto di tipo storico, geografico e umanistico, sulla base degli insegnamenti della scuola secondaria.
Grazie al corso lo studente saprà interpretare i molteplici eventi dello sport
contemporaneo come altrettante espressioni dei problemi, delle tensioni e delle realizzazioni della
civiltà contemporanea. In quanto tale potrà porsi come mediatore educativo in grado di
aiutare i giovani e gli adolescenti a vivere le loro pratiche sportive come occasioni di
conoscenza dei più ampi contesti sociali, culturali e politici in cui vivono e persino, nei
contesti scolastici, come utile complemento per la maggiore comprensione di una vasta
gamma di discipline. Nello stesso tempo, anche attraverso il riferimento a talune biografie
sportive, lo studente comprenderà quanto la pratica sportiva sia fondamentale per lo
sviluppo dell’identità personale, non soltanto nei conseguimenti ma anche e soprattutto
nelle ristrutturazioni necessarie per superare fasi di difficoltà della più diversa natura.
Scopo del corso è fornire una conoscenza generale degli sviluppi del movimento sportivo a livello mondiale, in particolar modo a partire dal sorgere del
movimento olimpico, dopo Atene 1896, che in qualche modo è servito da catalizzatore per
gli eventi e i calendari degli altri sport, da quelli più strettamente legati al movimento
olimpico (come l’atletica e il nuoto) a quelli maggiormente autonomi (come il calcio e il
ciclismo), a quelli quasi completamente indipendenti (come il rugby e molti sport
statunitensi).
Nel percorso cronologico del modulo l’attenzione si rivolgerà in particolar modo: agli
aspetti organizzativi (lo sport in quanto fenomeno globale è un intreccio molto significativo
di competizione e di cooperazione, dato che la competizione ritualizzata di ogni evento
sportivo ha senso solo grazie alla condivisione di regole generali che sono affermate e che
si evolvono a livello globale); agli aspetti geopolitici (nello sport si sono riflesse
esemplarmente tutte le grandi vicende globali, dall’imperialismo delle grandi potenze
europee alle età dei totalitarismi, dalla guerra fredda all’apertura di prospettive planetarie
conseguenti alla decolonizzazione); agli aspetti sociali (il progressivo riequilibrio fra i
generi e la sempre crescente attrattività dello sport femminile; la valorizzazione delle
pratiche sportive quale elemento centrale della vita dei diversamente abili; la progressiva
estensione delle attività sportive amatoriali alle classi di età senior; più in generale ancora
lo sport come grande occasione di mobilità sociale e di comprensione interculturale).
Lo studente verrà altresì introdotto agli aspetti propriamente culturali dello sport, la cui
narrazione ha generato un ambito mediatico specializzato particolarmente interessante (il
giornalismo sportivo), ha stimolato interventi letterari di alto livello, ha costituito un fattore
importante nell’evoluzione delle identità nazionali e in parte sta esercitando le funzioni
mitopoietiche che in altri tempi spettavano all’epica e alla poesia.

A general understanding of cultural, historical, geographic and humanistic features of our world, obtained from secondary school.
Aim of this course is to give the students a broad vision of events and processes of the International sports movement, considered as expressions of the problems, the conflicts, and the achievements of our present civilization. This vision will support the students in their future educational aims for the young and the teenagers, helping them in considering their own sporting experiences as a tool for understanding the broad social, cultural and political contexts in which they do live. For young people in the school the sporting events and processes may be even an useful tool to improve the knowledge of a large range of scholastic disciplines. Furthermore, we'll discuss the human and professional careers of well-known champions, to show how the various experiences in the sports' field are relevant for the development of a resilient personal identity. A career in sports means not only success, but above all resilience, because of the need to overcome frequent and various difficulties.
With this course we aim at giving the students a broad knowledge of the main historical developments of the international sports movements, and above all of the Olympic movement. We intend to stress how the Olympic movement acted as a sort of catalyzer of the developments of other sports. In a very general way, we can distinguish sports that were and are directly linked with the evolution of the Olympic movement (such as athletics and swimming),
from sports that were and are more autonomous (soccer, cycling) and from sport that are practically independent (as many American sports). During the course we pay a particular attention to organizational aspects. Sport as a global phenomenon is a very significant intertwining between competition and cooperation. Competition in sport is meaningful only thanks to a common sharing of general rules that have been established and evolve at global level. Moreover, we consider geopolitical aspects, because events in sports reflect in an exemplary way all the historical processes of the last century, such as imperialism, decolonization, Cold War and so on. We consider also very important social consequences of international sports movement: the progressive involvement of women, disabled and senior amateurs as well the reference to sport as a powerful tool of social mobility. Very relevant are also the specific cultural aspects of sports. Sports journalism is a relevant field of narratives about contemporary world and, moreover, sports influenced and do influence the evolution of collective and national identities, and possess even mythical functions, that in past belonged partly to epics and poetry.

We assess the achievement of educational aims and the attitude to get the deep meaning of the texts we propose
1-The oral exam consists of two parts. Check carefully on Leganto both the indications for the part on the Olympics, and the list of texts for the second part (you must choose at least three).
2-We should add that we must comply to possible decisions adopted by the authority concerning the containment and the management of the epidemiological emergency. Accordingly, the course might be subjected to some modifications compared with the present syllabus, aiming at making the course and the examinations compatible with possibile decisions.
