Il presente modulo ha l'obiettivo formativo di offrire allo studente una conoscenza degli aspetti legati allo sviluppo delle lingue nel tempo e nello spazio (diacronico e diatopico), mettendo lo studente in grado di cogliere alcuni aspetti fondamentali dello sviluppo storico delle lingue, in particolare di quelle della famiglia indeuropea, attraverso l'utilizzo di categorie legate alla struttura linguistica o alle condizioni di contatto linguistico
Il corso prevede un'illustrazione delle principali famiglie linguistiche, in particolare di quella indeuropea. Saranno poi esaminati i principali mutamenti linguistici ai vari livelli di analisi: quelli fonetici (sistematici e non sistematici), quelli fonologici, quelli morfologici, con particolare attenzione ai processi di analogia, e quelli sintattici, in particolare rianalisi e grammaticalizzazione. Infine verrà trattata in maniera sintetica la problematica del contatto linguistico come fonte del mutamento linguistico.
Qualora l'insegnamento venisse impartito in modalità mista o a distanza potranno essere introdotte modifiche rispetto a quanto dichiarato nel syllabus per rendere il corso e gli esami fruibili anche secondo queste modalità.
Modalità di verifica avverrà mediante prove scritte o prove orali, con domande che daranno possibilità allo studente di mostrare inequivocabilmente le competenze raggiunte. La modalità di valutazione consisterà nella traduzione in trentesimi di quanto lo studente avrà saputo mostrare di avere acquisito dei dati e dei metodi trasmessi.

The aim of this course is to offer the students the basic notions as to analyse the aspects tied with the knowledge of the languages developing in space (diatopy) and time (diachrony). Students should be able to envisage the crucial fatures of the linguistic and historical development of some languages, in particular the Indo-European languages, by employing some structurale linguistic categories or the conditions induced by contact.
The content of this course illustrates the most relevant world's linguistic families, in particular the Indo-European. During the course the most important linguistic changes will be illustrated at different level of analysis: phonetic changes (both systematic and non-systematic), phonological changes, morphological changes, with particular attention to the analogical processes, and the syntactic changes, with special attention to reanalysis and grammaticalisation. Finally, the issue of linguistic contact will be treated as a source of linguistic change.
If lectures should combine face-to-face teaching and distance teaching, some changes could be necessary with respect to the syllabus as to make course and exams also available in the distance modality.
Evaluations will be either oral or written tests. Students will have the opportunity to show their skills and the competence acquired beyond any doubts. The criterio according to which students will be evaluated will be base on their ability to show what they have acquired from data and methods transmitted during the classes.
