Knowledge of German Language equal to level B2+ (for LM I) or C1 (for LM II).
At the end of the course students have acquired – at metalinguistic and disciplinary level - methodological approaches for the linguistic analysis of the literary texts taken into consideration, also from a translator's point of view. Special attention will be given to the pragmatic and idiomatic sphere of German.
Furthermore students will have deepened and improved their translation skills and competences in the four communication abilities of the European Framework of Reference: at C1 level for LM I, at C1+ level (writing and oral production) and at C2 level (oral and written comprehension) for LM II.
During the course we will examine phenomena of register variation, the use of modal expressions, phraseology and idiomaticity in novels of modern and contemporary German literature as well as related challenges for translation. The analysis of literary texts regularly includes the comparison between source text and translation.
The contents of the AAL level C1 (German language LM I) and C1+/C2 (German language LM II) are indicated analytically on the website of the Language Competence Centre of the University in the German section.
