Prerequisites

Knowledge of basic elements for the definition of a culture, such as geographical, historical, juridical, linguistic, economic categories, as they are acquired at high school. Abilities to spot such categories in a new culture.

Educational goals

Chinese Culture course delivers the basic elements of Chinese culture, as they are represented by People's Republic of China. Students develop abilties in interpreting texts and informations on the basis of the main cultural parameters of sinophone world.

Course content

Chinese Culture course delivers elements of historical and anthropical geography of China; elements of Chinese history from the origins of the Empire up to ow; basic elements of philosophy (in particular Confucianism) and its role in contemporary society; elements of public institutions of PRC; main development of Chinese language and major measure of language policy and planning from the foundation of PRC up to now.

Teaching methods

The course have teacher-led classes but the participation of students, who have to get beforehand some basic knowledge of the topic is pivotal for an effective learning process.

Assessment and Evaluation

The final exams verifies the knowledge of the main elements of Chinese culture. The test is a multiple choice question test, plus some open questions.

Further information

The program is the same for attending students and non-attending students. Texts and materials provided by the teacher will be available in the e-learning platform. International students or those who have to get a partial mark are invited to contact the teacher. A regular attendance is highly encouraged. Students are encouraged to get some knowledge of the topic beforehand, so to participate with more awareness and let the teacher deal with the topic more deeply.
