Monica D’Agostini is Rtd B (Assistant Professor) of Ancient Greek History at the University of Bergamo. She obtained the Habilitation to Associate Professor of Ancient History. She holds two Ph.D.s (University of Bologna 2013; UCSC 2018), and was a postdoctoral fellow at the McGill University Classics Dep. (2013-14) and the Waterloo Institute for Hellenistic Studies, Ontario (2014; 2015). She is the European Editor of the A-ranked academic journal The Ancient History Bulletin (fascia A).
D’Agostini has been a doctoral fellow at The Library of Congress, Washington DC – European Division (2010), and was granted the CUC research fellowship (2011-2014). She was also awarded the 2012 Marco Polo Travel and Research Grant of the Università di Bologna and the 2014 AIA Annual Meeting Kress Travel Award Award of the Archaeological Institute of America.
Monica D’Agostini’s research focuses on diplomacy, dynastic relations, political and military authority in Macedonia and Hellenistic Antiquity with forays into the History of modern political thought. She is the author of The Rise of Philip V. Kingship and Rule in the Hellenistic World (Alessandria: Edizioni dell’Orso, 2019), and Gaetano Filangieri and Benjamin Franklin: between the Italian enlightenment and the US Constitution (Washington DC: Ambasciata d'Italia at Washington DC, 2011). She co-edited with Edward Anson and Frances Pownall Affective Relationships and Personal Bonds in Hellenistic Antiquity (Oxford: Oxbow Books, 2020) D’Agostini published several single-authored peer-reviewed English and Italian contributions. She also pursues Public engagement as the administrator of the group Hellenistic Group.
