I am an associate professor at Bergamo University, where I teach Medieval History, Landscape History and Animal History. I have been a visiting fellow at Harvard University (Spring 2019), professeur invité at the University of Angers (Fall 2014, October), and professeur invité at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (July 2022). I am also a fellow (membre associé) of the CIHAM and honorary fellow of the Società Italiana di Storia della fauna. Together with Fabio Saggioro, I direct the Storie di Paesaggi medievali series (Insegna del Giglio ed.). I have been member of the editorial boards of Reti Medievali since 2009, Popolazione e Storia since 2011, and Mémoire des princes angevins (since 2016).
I am PI for the following research projects:
- "Local connectivity in an age of global intensification: infrastructural networks, production and trading areas in late-medieval Italy (1280-1500), Prin 2017, granted by the Italian Ministry of the Research (€461,000). Sito web loc-glob

- Angevin Europe. Schedatura e digitalizzazione degli ufficiali attivi nello spazio angioino (secoli XIII-XIV) (in collaboration with Jean-Luc Bonnaud, Enikö Csukovits, Thierry Pécout, Isabelle Mathieu, Serena Morelli, “plan quinquiennal de l’École Française de Rome (2012-2016)”. This project was granted by ANR in 2012 (dir. Thierry Pécout).
Awards: The book I paesaggi dell’Italia medievale was awarded the Italia medievale prize (2016), the Onor d’Agobbio prize (2016), the “Premio nazionale di divulgazione scientifica 2016” prize in the Humanities section (CNR)
