Sergio Baragetti is a mechanical engineer, extraordinary professor since 2012 and full professor since 2015 of Machine Design and Machine Construction (SSD - Scientific Disciplinary Sector ING-IND/14) at the Universitità degli Studi di Bergamo. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 1994 (Master Degree - General Construction curriculum) and was awarded a Ph.D. - Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) in Quality Engineering from the University of Florence in 1998. He is an expert in the design of mechanical components with a high strength-to-mass ratio (titanium alloys, aluminium and composite components). His research activities concern the theoretical, numerical and experimental study of the effects induced by surface treatments on the fatigue behaviour of mechanical components, the study of fatigue and corrosion mechanisms in aqueous environments, the study of the effects of hard thin surface coatings on fatigue, contact fatigue and corrosion-fatigue behaviour. He has more than 30 years of experience in the analysis of components and structures using theoretical, numerical and experimental procedures. He is head of the Laboratory of Structural Mechanics at the University of Bergamo. He has 44 international and national patents (2 filed in 2022) and 372 publications in international and Italian journals, books, international and national conference proceedings, patents (from Aisberg, Institutional Archive of the University of Bergamo - aisberg.unibg.it).
From 2023 in the "Top 2% scientists in the world".
